So why the demand? Besides the aesthetics, powder coated wheels are much easier to maintain, have great resistance to our seasonal changes, snow, rain, frost and heatwaves, acid rain and salt and grit on the roads during winter spells.
As we stated on our Alloy Wheel Repair page, preparation is key in ensuring that the end result is superb. During the process it is essential that tyres are removed along with any car motifs etc, as powder coating requires curing, that is baking the wheels at a high temperature. Any previous paint or powder coatings along with rust, de-greasing, brake dust is removed, depending on the condition of the wheels various processes can be involved. Wheels need to be cleaned down to the bare metal.
Our powder is made from pigments and from polymers which are applied using an electrostatic gun like a Wagner Powder Coating Gun. It needs this static to apply electrically charged powder particles. After the part is coated its then time for the curing to take place. This gets the polymers to melt and flow over the part creating a thick skin that gives it its shine making it very appealing to the eye.
